Meet the Evisort Team: Dwight Krossa
In this series, we get to meet the team that makes the Evisort magic happen. This week, we talked with Vice President of Product Dwight Krossa. Read on to find out why Dwight loves working at Evisort, how he empowers the product organization, and the opportunities for career growth the company offers.
1. Talk a bit about your role at Evisort, and how it builds on your prior experience.
I started as VP of Product at Evisort in February 2022. There are two main parts to defining the product. My team and I work with existing and prospective customers to identify the customers' problems and goals. We then figure out what we can do to actually solve those problems. It is all about figuring out what our customers need so we can make our product better by working with the engineering team to implement practical solutions to our customers’ challenges.
My previous work experience includes being a product management consultant. When a company had a product management organization that was in trouble, I would teach them how to run it smoothly, whether that meant optimizing existing operations or creating a new organization from scratch.
2. What made you decide to join Evisort?
Some of my consulting experience was with other legal tech companies, including in the contract management space. When I looked at the market for contract management software, I became excited about the opportunity to work at Evisort. It’s a greenfield — what we’re really doing is transforming the status quo of how people manage their contracts. Most teams have no contract analytics capabilities. It is a market ripe for a great solution!
What excited me most about Evisort was the technology. Evisort is really head and shoulders above the competition. When I first saw the platform in action, I realized it was much more accurate than other solutions. In terms of differentiation, there’s basically a big moat between Evisort and our competitors.
On top of that, the company’s “no jerks” policy was appealing, and I’ve found it to be true since I’ve joined — there really are no jerks here. I get to work with people I want to work with, and we’re solving real problems together. We have a lot of smart people who work in a respectful, collaborative way.
3. How would you describe the Evisort team and culture?
The team at Evisort is full of very smart, passionate people working on solving real customer problems and figuring out how to truly delight our customers while also meeting our business goals. The team at Evisort is very focused on doing both, not just one or the other. It’s a strong balance!
The Evisort culture is focused, collaborative, open, inquisitive, and curious. We’re all working toward a common goal. Open collaboration makes Evisort a good place to work. Even being fully remote, we have good processes and systems in place to make it work. We are on the hunt to find the right people regardless of where they are, and we are doing great at it!
4. What are the biggest challenges of your role?
That’s a tough one. There are lots of things we know we can do to improve our product, but we only have so many product managers and developers. Our biggest challenge is identifying the right set of priorities to work on. We want to deliver everything, but we don’t have unlimited resources. We consistently have to prioritize what to deliver first.
5. What makes Evisort stand out from other places to work?
There is good management in every department. Leaders at Evisort care about their teams and want to do the right thing. We have high expectations for everyone and we expect them to meet those expectations — but we are willing to help one another to achieve them. Management sets out job goals and actively helps team members to meet them.
6. Where do you see contracting technology five years from now?
This could be a five-hour discussion! Starting with creating contracts — when you use any part of Evisort for the first time, you suddenly realize you can create your contracts right in the app. Teams can automate new contract creation, and everything else that comes with the contracting process. Our AI technology gives users choices about the best language for the contract at hand, and essentially does the hard work for them.
When you’re creating a contract, the first thing you look at is what your agreement entails. Our platform helps customers fully understand what they have done in the past with their deals, and how to optimize their agreements going forward. In many ways, we want to take the menial tasks away from the lawyers so that they don’t have to review every word. Rather, you can rest assured that you’re using the best language, and you don’t need 45 people to review every document.
Once you have a contract in Evisort, our goal is to make the information in that contract available in the different databases where you need it — information on negotiations, payment schedules and tables, rebate tables, and more. Evisort’s active integrations with other business software enable the platform to automatically push information from new agreements into those other databases. You can also get processes started automatically — for example, if a breach happens, Evisort’s AI helps you standardize and initiate the proper protocol. Your contracts become active documents that drive your business. That is what Evisort is all about.
7. What else should interested candidates know about Evisort?
Evisort is such a good place to work. Contracts might sound boring to some people, but the things our team members do from day to day have very little to do with the contracts themselves. Our technology is very forward-thinking. We very much believe in getting the right tools to the right people to get the job done. We care about giving the best we can to get each employee to do their job well.
We live by our company values, and we try to make sure that our employees live those values every day. That’s how we create an environment that is just fun to work in!
8. What do you like to do when you’re not at work?
I love the outdoors! I like to road bike and mountain bike, mainly. I also try to ski as much as I can. I travel with my wife and two kids (especially internationally!), but with Covid, we haven’t been able to do that a lot recently. We do have an RV and try to hit all the national parks, though!
